Last week one of the major (nameless) health facilities in Queensland decided that it would be important to raise their standards in terms of what food and drink they provide.
This healthy choice type promo is aimed at practicing what they preach, ie: why promote health and healthy lifestyle if you’re giving people junk food when they come in the door?
And so as a result, the canteens nearby have had to change their display stock to show nice fruits and sandwiches, and cans of softdrink / chips etc are tucked away under the counter.
Interestingly enough, they didn’t stop there. They removed packets of biscuits from the wards, because patients don’t need to have biscuits with their coffee, do they? - They need healthy salad instead. But wait, there’s more! A memo was also circulated stating that staff rooms that provide any kinds of chips / chocolate / soft drink for sale need to clear it all out by a particular date. What the!?..
Therefore our staff room which is used by 100+ people has to get rid of fund-raising chocolates and softdrink.
Now, I’m all for eating healthy and maintaining a good diet, but there’s no need to take choices away from adults and force rules upon them in the workplace. What ever happened to concepts like job satisfaction and staff retention? Truly bureaucracy gone mad.
