The ATO has an information page on their website titled Nurses, midwives and direct carers – claiming work-related expenses, and it provides plenty of info specifically designed for nurses making claims for tax purposes.
You cannot claim for a deduction when your employer reimburses you for a particular expense, however there are plenty of things you can claim a deduction for, such as:
- car and travel expenses,
- uniform and maintenance (laundry),
- registration and insurance costs,
- education expenses,
- things like your phone, equipment, stationary and overtime meals.
