Working in Australia as a Nurse
If you are keen to work in Australia, there’s loads of jobs around and nurses continue to be in high demand. There are temporary, part-time, full time, casual and agency positions around in every area of nursing, and most visa applications for nurses get priority processing.
Nurses who want to work in Australia need to be assessed by either the Australian Nursing & Midwifery Council (ANMC) or the nurse regulatory body in the State or Territory in which they want to work (eg. see QLD page).
This will change a little as of 1st July 2010 when the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency implements a single national registration and accreditation system.
For further information on Registration, you can email an enquiry about your personal situation to the international section of ANMC.
To work in a hospital or other health care area, nurses also have to pass a health examination which includes a chest x-ray and quite probably opening your mouth to say “aaaaah”. Good luck with that arduous task, hope you pass
Further assessment info can be found on the Australian Nursing & Midwifery Council (ANMC) website or the nurse regulatory body in the State or Territory in which you want to work.
